The project involved an immersive on-site exploration of the Bidri craft cluster in Bidar, India. The aim was to document the artisans' lives and the craft itself in a publication, along with a documentary to raise awareness of Bidriware. Recognising the lack of promotion, which limits sales and discourages new artisans, a brand narrative was crafted to revitalise Bidri’s legacy.

Bidri Craft Documentation

The art of Bidri craft has its roots in Bidar, India, dating back to the time of Indian Sultans. This exceptional metalworking technique is renowned for its enduring lustre, rendering it a versatile product, serving both decorative and functional purposes, and has gained widespread recognition in the global market.

Challenge

Poor promotion of Bidri craft is limiting sales and discouraging new artisans, threatening the legacy of this traditional art form.

Solutions

This project involved creating a comprehensive publication that encapsulates our research on Bidri craft, the city of Bidar, the artisans, and their lives. It also includes a brand identity for Bidri craft, along with essential collateral materials such as business cards and product bags. Additionally, we have established a dedicated social media presence to enhance the narrative around Bidri craft and promote its appreciation on a global scale.
